PIPE

A pipe is a long, hollow cylinder used to convey fluids (liquids and gases), typically water, wastewater, stormwater, or other utility services. Pipes form the core network of underground infrastructure systems.

Purpose:

  • Transport water, sewage, stormwater, or industrial waste.

  • Serve as conduits in water supply, drainage, irrigation, and gas systems.

    MANHOLE

A manhole is a vertical underground chamber that provides access to sewer lines, storm drains, or utility conduits for inspection, maintenance, and cleaning.

    Purpose:

  • Allow workers to enter and inspect underground pipe networks.

  • Facilitate cleaning and removal of blockages.

  • Enable connection between different pipes or branches in a network.

    🧱 PIPE & MANHOLE as a System

Pipes and manholes are part of an integrated underground network used for managing:

  • Sewage (blackwater)

  • Stormwater (rainfall runoff)

  • Water supply and distribution

  • Industrial effluent systems

  • Manholes are spaced at intervals along pipelines or at junctions, changes in pipe direction, or elevation drops to allow for proper access and flow control.
